“IYT is working to eradicate educational inequality and systems of oppression young men of color have endured for centuries.”

About us

IYT breaks the school-to-prison pipeline by helping young men of color get to and through college.

Over 90% of our students come from households that are on or well below the poverty level and from communities with high unemployment, crime, and incarceration rates. Predominantly first-generation college students from single-parent homes, the students we serve are prone to interrelated forms of trauma— historical, community, and individual. These have adverse effects on mental health and reflected in poor school performance; high suspension, expulsion, and drop-out rates; frequent interaction with the criminal justice system; and, relatedly, limited representation in higher education, the professions, or skilled labor.
